If this black and gold kitchen doesn't make your jaw drop like it does ours, this trend just might not be for you. But, here at Whitestone Design Group, this Design Trend has snagged our attention and we don't foresee this trend going anywhere soon. Black and Gold will be huge in 2018.
The black and gold design trend is a versatile color combinations that lends itself to a lot of different design styles and is capable of making your home look and feel exclusive. Black and gold is generally identified as a luxurious color combination, and its certainly setting the bar when it comes to interior decor at the moment. With the presence of black and gold in your space, your home will most definitely gain a unique look that is sure to distinguish it from others. The two colors together are perfect for creating wonderful sense of an elevated interior.
Below, we will highlight to you some of the reasons why the combination of the two colors is taking over and making waves in the Design Industry as one of the hottest trends for 2018.
If you ask interior designer about what it is that black and gold colors bring to their work, the answer would be: Fabulousness! The two colors combined together to bring a touch of elegance to a space. The colors can be used together exclusively or in addition to other colors when decorating a room to give it a vintage style vibe and can be utilized with furniture and accessories to exude that "Art Deco" feel seamlessly. Farmhouse, you got it! Modern, black and gold can be added with ease. It's that perfect color duo that works with all design styles and rarely disappoints.
Who doesn’t love a little bit of luxury? Everyone wants to have the feeling that they can buy whatever, whenever. Using a color combination that has been frequently found in palaces and high-income homes is a no brainer when attempting to achieve that "life of luxury" look you might just be going for. Add a little... Add a lot! How far are you willing to push your style?!
Home Appliances and Utilities
Using the colors black and gold to decorate the powder room or a master bath, for example, makes it look entirely different from 2017 dominate design trend of an all-white lavatory. Some of our favorite examples of how impactful the color trend is has been in kitchens and, of course, bathrooms. Who knew bathrooms could be so exciting?! There really are no limits to the use of these colors.
Furniture and Accessories
If you have taken a good look at the homes that make people stop and stare lately, we're noticing that it's the furniture and decor that really makes it stand out. Especially in neighborhoods where the homes are starting to use the same floor plans and construction materials. Using the two colors – black and gold – in a combination seems to bring out the value and quality of the furniture. The two colors are timeless and definitely make one heck of a DIY project. The same thing goes for accessories. Gold accessories have been nudging their way in for awhile, but the combination is fresh and new. In our opinion, every room looks better with a bit of black.
What are your thoughts? Is this trend for you? Could you make the black and gold design trend work in your home, even if just in a small way? Share your projects with us! We'd love to see them and share how our readers are making moves in the 2018 Design Trend that we are crushing on!

When my husband and I found out our dear friends were pregnant with their first child, I couldn't have been more excited for them! And quite frankly, we are just as excited that our children will be so close in age that they will grow up together! Best friends in the making. I was so happy when she said yes to letting me throw a shower for her. Best part, they aren't revealing the sex of the baby! So, it was time to get creative with the gender neutral theme.
Because we all love the outdoors and do at least one annual camping trip a year, it seemed like the perfect fit! And hey, my sweet tooth is always up for a delicious s'mores treat! I'm looking forward to doing our first camping trip as a group of six!
Pulling it all together was easy once I became fixated on making a buffalo check bunting banner. Things seemed to naturally evolve after that. I warn you though... Set aside enough time for such a task... I got more than I bargained for!
The tent was a huge hit! My dog wanted to make it her home, but we sent it home with the parents to be for their newest addition to enjoy when they're older.
The table came together quite easily. I repurposed the wood from a prior event, gather the rocks from my yard, filled in some space with some live plants and topped it off with some tasty treats!
The s'mores bar outside was a huge hit with the kids!
Gifts for the new parents!
The favors turned out so cute!
I am so pleased that the party was a great success! We were thrilled to host our friends and their loved ones, and celebrate this extremely exciting time in their lives! We couldn't be happier for their new family and can't wait to plot future camping adventures!
Congrats Ryan and Brynn!
We love you and can't wait to meet your cuddly bundle of joy - xoxo
A huge "thank you" to Wynne of W H Earle Photography for the fantastic photos!!
The best thing about Independence Day in The Pacific Northwest is that it is typically reigning in our summer. As Interior Designers, we get asked for holiday decorating tips all the time and Fourth of July is no exception. I'm going to share a few examples of the patriotic decor I've been admiring this year as well as my new favorite summer cocktail. For more holiday decor ideas, follow Whitestone Design Group at our Pinterest Board where we are always collecting little gems!
When decorating for any holiday, I'm a big fan of adding subtle touches that work all year round if you want them to. I love this blog I found on Pinterest of a few simple touches that say, "Celebrating Independence Day," without being overly committed to just one day of the year. Simple fabrics and suggestive prints make for easy pillow covers that can be added and removed throughout the year, but the impact is pretty impressive! This wooden flag is an easy weekend project that won't break the bank and pulls it all together! See the rest of this project on the Dear Lillie Blog here.
Because I am so crazy for my partner, Katie Cooper's massively impressive chalkboards, the look below really speaks to me! The best part about chalkboard decor is that it's relatively inexpensive and can be customized to say anything you want. In addition, you can always paint over your chalkboard and start all over again! What you see in this patriotic decor is low commitment and really easy to accomplish for your summer celebration! You can see Katie's chalkboard at her East to West Studios Etsy shop. And to see more images from the project below, check out The Golden Sycamore's Blog.
An easy way to set the tone for your Independence Day Party, a Welcome Wreath! Go simple and make this a family project with the kids. Holiday wreaths let the world know that you love the holidays and I've never made one that cost me over $50. Below are a few that I'm loving this year. Click on the following links for DIY recommendations on how to achieve the look. 1. Rag Rug Wreath 2. Ribbon Wreath 3. Twine Wreath
