PACIFIC NORTHWEST NURSERY | ONE ROOM CHALLENGE REVEAL

Today feels like Christmas!!  The nursery is complete and it’s finally time for the big REVEAL!   I can’t believe that six short weeks ago, I decided to get on board with the One Room Challenge with the suggestion of a dear friend.   I really can’t believe that I DID this in six short weeks!  But, it happened and now there is a beautiful, sweet nursery to show for it.   This space is so personal to me…  I put my heart and soul into this room.  Truly a labor of love as I was painting the trim in this room the night before shoot and reveal day!  In the end, it was completely worth every second of time that we put into this nursery and am truly grateful to everyone that had a hand in making my vision come to it’s full potential.

If you've popped over onto this post from the One Room Challenge site, Welcome!  I'm so glad you're here!  I'm a professional Interior Designer and Blogger in the Greater Seattle area with a high focus on Commercial Interior Design, Residential Remodels and my team and I specialize in Remote Design Projects all over the world!  This is my first time as a participant in the One Room Challenge and although it's been taxing, I've genuinely enjoyed every second of it. - heather scherie

Looking back at where this all began, the room was where clothes no longer worn went to die, baby items we weren’t ready to get rid of "just in case we decided to have another child" got stored away, and our sweet Rhodesian Ridgeback had the joy of having the biggest “dog bed” in the world.   We basically moved in 10 months ago, got it to habitable spot and really never stepped foot in it again.  And although we knew once we did find out we were having child number two that this room would need to become that child’s bedroom, had it not been for the One Room Challenge, it may have stayed just as uninspired for at least a few more weeks!  So, here it is in all its glory. The before and the after.

I feel like I had SUCH a clear vision from the beginning of what I wanted to accomplish in this baby space. It's fun to reference back to the Design Inspiration Board and see the path from start to finish really never wavered.  It feels organic, minimal, and that Pacific Northwest palette really shines through!

I have so many favorite details on this project.  The drapery panels and the crib bumpers turned just the way I imagined them.  I still can’t believe that I actually whipped out the dusty sewing machine and fabricated them!  It’s been so long since I actually worked on my own soft goods… It’s even crazier that I remembered how to do it!  Well, in perfect transparency, I did have to reach out to my mother for a little guidance, but that’s what moms are for, right?

The artwork blows me away!  I can’t wait to get a float frame on this piece, but I wasn’t able to fit that into my timeline for this challenge.  I absolutely love working with talented, local artists.  For this particular piece, I worked with a great friend, Wynne Earle, who is one of the most talented artists I know.  I talked through the overall feel of the nursery and shared some photographs of images I was inspired by and THIS beauty is what she came up with!  I’m so particular about art.  Picky is actually an understatement.  But, this is what commissioning a piece of art specifically for your space gets you!

If I had to pick one last detail to fave from this project, it would have to be the semi-custom dresser that my husband and I built.  I had an idea in my head and when I see the final product, I feel like he and I nailed it!  I wanted simple, clean and highly functional.  This dresser doesn’t disappoint!  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not perfect, but it feels like a piece that’s all our own made with our own four hands.  Six, if you count our toddlers sweet efforts to help!

For anyone who's concerned about where the Ridgeback, Miss Makeena, wound up laying her head...

No need to worry!  The princess is VERY happy in her new bed.

I owe a HUGE “thank you” to Wynne of WHEarlePhotography.  When the daybed, which was a huge solution to one of the initial challenges of the entire project, was massively delayed, I gave her a call to see if she could work with the time adjustment.  Although I knew I was going to be asking A LOT!!  She happily said that we would make it work.  As promised, she came out the day of delivery, photographed this incredible shot list, and turned the images around the very next day for me! It was fascinating watching her edit and seeing just how much goes into each image! I owe her sooooooo much and couldn’t have done this without her.  I may have had a six week challenge, but this brave woman gave herself a 24 hour challenge.   Bona fide - rock star.

Another huge “thank you” is owed to my lovely husband, who looked at me a little sideways when I suggested that I join this challenge, but smiled and said okay anyway.  He got on board with all my ideas and supported my vision even though he couldn’t clearly see it until the end.  He did so much of the heavy lifting for this girl and I am beyond grateful.

Thank you so much to all of the vendors who agreed to work with my crazy deadline and shipped so many of the adorable things you see here far quicker than their promise dates.  Next week, I will be sharing all of the sources for the details and products that were used on this project.  So, if you’ve got your eyes on something here, I can’t say enough wonderful things about everyone that I purchased items from.

Most importantly, thank you to those behind the scenes of the One Room Challenge.  This platform gives so many talented Designers and Bloggers the opportunity to put their very best skills to the test.  It's been such a fabulous experience and I have relished in the opportunity to remotely meet some seriously talented individuals that I fully intend on developing further relationships with.   I am so, so, SO impressed with the reveals from both the Featured Designers and Guest Participants.  PLEASE don't miss the opportunity to check in on some sensational before and after projects.  Click here to see all of the submissions. Thank you to Linda from Calling it Home and the partnership with House Beautiful for making this possible.

Lastly, thank you to you.  My readers, followers, supporters and clients.  Without you all, there would be no me as a Designer.

- Happy Designing -

BEFORE & AFTER | KITCHEN REMODEL IN BELLEVUE WASHINGTON

WSDG - Blog | Before&After | Bellevue Kitchen Remodel

We have a great before and after to share with you today!  As a Interior Designer, there's really nothing quite as rewarding as seeing a client's face truly light up when they see their vision become a reality in their very own home.  This particular kitchen renovation really embodies just how much a space can change by opening up some walls and adding so much needed windows.  This client found a special way into our hearts making our connection to this interior design project that much more important to us.

WSDG - Blog | Before&After | Bellevue Kitchen Remodel | BEFORE

This couple definitely came to us with different visions when it came to the style of what they wanted, but by listening to both of them intently, we were able to come up with a design solution that accommodated the stylistic details that were most important to each of them individually.

The whole space before was really dark and the artificial lighting was terrible.  Being a family that loves to entertain, both the dining room and kitchen just weren't accommodating their lifestyles at all.  Our goal was to implement far better natural light, use finishes that were soft and inviting, and make the room feel less like a dark, dreary, cave.

NURSERY REVEAL

Although my passion for Interior Design is wrapped up in construction and remodels, this particular design plan is most certainly the closest project to my heart to date.  I am so excited to announce that my wonderful husband and I are expecting a baby late this spring!  I knew when we got married that we would eventually want to start a family, but nothing in this world could have prepared me for how much more I would fall in love with him when we discovered that we were pregnant.  Now we find ourselves in this excruciating waiting period for our little bundle to arrive...  Our bedside tables are piled with baby books, our date night conversations are suddenly filled with name options for our little nugget, and our newest project at home is complete... THE NURSERY!!

Yes, we are that couple that has chosen to wait until our delivery day to find our the gender of our baby.  I know that it is really challenging for my husband, especially when we have our doctors appointments!  But, for me, I didn't care whether we had a boy or a girl and therefore, didn't see a reason to find out the sex.  When it came to doing the nursery it did provide some challenges.  I found that so many of the adorable things out there for children have become so gender specific.  However, I throughly enjoyed the challenge and I'm so in love with the outcome.

I DID have to give up my closet to do this room... Yep, I was that girl that had an entire bedroom devoted to fashion, but seeing as how this room is directly next to the master bedroom, it only made sense.  The sacrifices we make for our children!

I owe a very special thank you to my dear friend Heather Roddy of Valzora Bell.  I use her pretty much exclusively for nearly all of my projects that require a custom touch with softgoods such as window treatments and pillows.  Naturally, she was my go-to on my own project too and she worked diligently with me to get all the details just right for my perfectionist mind!  We added this adorable felt, fuzzy ball detail to the lead edge of the curtains to make them a bit more special.  And the bumper was made to fit this crib specifically!  That's the beauty of going custom on your details!

Here are some of the details that make me fall in love with this space every time I sit in it.  I'm assuming that I may be spending a lot of time "sitting" in this room, so it's a good thing I'm particularly fond of it!  Perhaps the baby will be partial to adorable details :-)

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and take a peek at what's in store for my life!  I'm so passionate about baby spaces and if you'd like to see more of how I came to all my design decisions for our nursery, check out my family | manzer babe Pinterest Page!  It can be so challenging to wade through the endless options of ideas for nurseries, so if you find yourself or a loved one needing a little help with that special place in the home, feel free to email me at hello@whitestonedesigngroup.com.

BEFORE AND AFTER : Rainier Medical Building

One of the things I love most about doing Commercial Interior Design projects is truly being able to add value to a space.  When we were approached to provide some updates to the Rainier Medical Building, the owners originally contacted us for suggestions on fresh paint and some different lighting.  Through some cost analysis research of what similar leasing space in the area was going for, we were able to show the clients that investing about 25% more money on top of the assumed budget, they would be able to ask for a higher leasing rate for the newly renovated tenant spaces and earn the money back within a year and a half!  It is so rewarding to provide not only a remodel that we can be proud of as Interior Designers from an aesthetic and functionality stand point, but to design in a way that allows also our client to come out ahead financially as well!

AFTER

The space was built in the 1960's.  Although it did appear that the paint had probably been updated within the last twenty years, it was certainly time for a little bit of a remodel for this building.

BEFORE

We were lucky to work with some of our favorite products and some wonderful vendors to make our vision transform this space into something current and indicative of the Pacific Northwest.

AFTER

One of the areas I feel the most proud of is the bathrooms.  A clean and minimal approach turned out to be effective and impactful.

AFTER

All-in-all, we had a wonderful time working with these clients.  I have a certain passion for Commercial Interior Design and Tenant Improvement projects.  This particular project really allowed us to showcase what it is that makes the Pacific Northwest so beautiful by bringing the outdoors in and showcasing on of our favorite furniture designer, Bruce Hanamura with The Design Pallet's, stunning work.

Another company that we can't say enough great things about, is Apex Railing Solutions, serving the Greater Seattle Area.  They worked closely with us to collaborate on these beautiful railing systems to specifically suit this project.

Before & After: Sammamish Residence

This is a great residential interior design before and after showcasing the power of paint and taking the client's modern aesthetic and meshing it with the traditional architectural details of their home. This young family had just moved into this home, purchased a few pieces of contemporary furniture and once it was delivered, they realized they needed some HELP. We were so happy to come in with an initial paint consultation and ended up completing a full service interior design package. Take a look at the results and let us know what you think!
