Design Trend | Black and Gold

If this black and gold kitchen doesn't make your jaw drop like it does ours, this trend just might not be for you. But, here at Whitestone Design Group, this Design Trend has snagged our attention and we don't foresee this trend going anywhere soon. Black and Gold will be huge in 2018.

The black and gold design trend is a versatile color combinations that lends itself to a lot of different design styles and is capable of making your home look and feel exclusive. Black and gold is generally identified as a luxurious color combination, and its certainly setting the bar when it comes to interior decor at the moment. With the presence of black and gold in your space, your home will most definitely gain a unique look that is sure to distinguish it from others. The two colors together are perfect for creating wonderful sense of an elevated interior.

Below, we will highlight to you some of the reasons why the combination of the two colors is taking over and making waves in the Design Industry as one of the hottest trends for 2018.

Style

If you ask interior designer about what it is that black and gold colors bring to their work, the answer would be: Fabulousness!  The two colors combined together to bring a touch of elegance to a space. The colors can be used together exclusively or in addition to other colors when decorating a room to give it a vintage style vibe and can be utilized with furniture and accessories to exude that "Art Deco" feel seamlessly.  Farmhouse, you got it!  Modern, black and gold can be added with ease.  It's that perfect color duo that works with all design styles and rarely disappoints.

Who doesn’t love a little bit of luxury? Everyone wants to have the feeling that they can buy whatever, whenever. Using a color combination that has been frequently found in palaces and high-income homes is a no brainer when attempting to achieve that "life of luxury" look you might just be going for.  Add a little... Add a lot!  How far are you willing to push your style?!

Home Appliances and Utilities

Using the colors black and gold to decorate the powder room or a master bath, for example, makes it look entirely different from 2017 dominate design trend of an all-white lavatory. Some of our favorite examples of how impactful the color trend is has been in kitchens and, of course, bathrooms. Who knew bathrooms could be so exciting?!  There really are no limits to the use of these colors.

Furniture and Accessories

If you have taken a good look at the homes that make people stop and stare lately, we're noticing that it's the furniture and decor that really makes it stand out. Especially in neighborhoods where the homes are starting to use the same floor plans and construction materials. Using the two colors – black and gold – in a combination seems to bring out the value and quality of the furniture.  The two colors are timeless and definitely make one heck of a DIY project.  The same thing goes for accessories.  Gold accessories have been nudging their way in for awhile, but the combination is fresh and new.  In our opinion, every room looks better with a bit of black.

What are your thoughts?  Is this trend for you?  Could you make the black and gold design trend work in your home, even if just in a small way?   Share your projects with us!  We'd love to see them and share how our readers are making moves in the 2018 Design Trend that we are crushing on!

Happy Designing!

Do Not Feed the Bears | Baby Shower

When my husband and I found out our dear friends were pregnant with their first child, I couldn't have been more excited for them!  And quite frankly, we are just as excited that our children will be so close in age that they will grow up together! Best friends in the making.  I was so happy when she said yes to letting me throw a shower for her.  Best part, they aren't revealing the sex of the baby!  So, it was time to get creative with the gender neutral theme.

Because we all love the outdoors and do at least one annual camping trip a year, it seemed like the perfect fit!  And hey, my sweet tooth is always up for a delicious s'mores treat!  I'm looking  forward to doing our first camping trip as a group of six!

Pulling it all together was easy once I became fixated on making a buffalo check bunting banner.   Things seemed to naturally evolve after that.  I warn you though... Set aside enough time for such a task...  I got more than I bargained for!

The tent was a huge hit!  My dog wanted to make it her home, but we sent it home with the parents to be for their newest addition to enjoy when they're older.

The table came together quite easily.  I repurposed the wood from a prior event, gather the rocks from my yard, filled in some space with some live plants and topped it off with some tasty treats!

I am so pleased that the party was a great success!  We were thrilled to host our friends and their loved ones, and celebrate this extremely exciting time in their lives!  We couldn't be happier for their new family and can't wait to plot future camping adventures!

Congrats Ryan and Brynn!

We love you and can't wait to meet your cuddly bundle of joy - xoxo

OFFICE DESIGN

Heather-Scherie and I were approached last week by a young tech company located in Bellevue, WA to outfit their new office space. The challenge was....they needed it functioning immediately! If they had their way, they would have wanted it up and running with all the furniture in place the same week we met them, BUT interior design and furnishing any type of office is a little tricky to do when you aren't purchasing it yourself. Since we were on a time crunch, it was very important that we sourced the product from only a few different stores and it all has to product is in stock and ready to ship. With budget, time and space constraints we pulled together a very comprehensive design plan that will be functional and organized for their six employees while also making an impression when meeting with clients! Here is the plan for their "Lounge/Flex Area":

Lifestyle : We're going to VEGAS!

Between the two of us, we've been a lot of places, butI personally have never to Las Vegas!  As we have a pending wedding on the horizon, we decided to take this opportunity to ship off to Sin City and see what kind of trouble we could dig up for ourselves for a bonafide Bachelorette Party!

Naturally, there were many outfits to be planned, many bags to be packed, and a large list of destinations to be seen.  We had such a great time and have documented some of the events from our travels!

My favorite place we went to for food was by far  Tao.  There isn't a single expense spared in any of the restaurants or nightclubs in Las Vegas, but Tao made my jaw as an Interior Designer drop straight to my freshly manicured toes!  From the moment that you walk into the facility, everything is PURE luxury.  Which, here at the Whitestone Design Group, we are really big fans of.

We spent a lot of time in the sun at pool party's and while I find that MGM's pool is beautiful, The Hard Rock Cafe's pools were a spectacularly good time!  People looking for a dance party poolside, Hard Rock is your spot.  The pools all feel like you're at a beach and the pool side cabana's are a real treat.  You will likely have to spend some time in a line that feels as long as the Empire State Building is tall, but it is worth it on the other side.

Fashion in Las Vegas... ANYTHING goes!  It is Vegas, so shiny and short tend to be the most popular items on the shelves, but style comes in all shapes and sizes in this town.  And the shoes!!  It was impressive to see how many women were brave enough to wear heels around time I would only commit to if I were walking from the front door to the car.  The group of ladies and I went for cute and our version of sexy, but shoes that we would be able to wear until 6am!

My tips I will leave you with for traveling to Las Vegas, travel with people you trust, you only need three days there, and book a pedicure for when you return home!  Thanks for reading about our time in Vegas!  Until our next travels... XX
